The Economy's Effect on Fashion

It's now no secret that the world is in economic turmoil. Fashion has and will continue to take on a change reminiscent of the 30's and 40's. Designers are hesitant to create clothes too risky and bold, while consumers are only spending money on items they can wear season to season without them "going out" of style. Bring on the "classic" looks. The cycle of fashion has once again and will always revert back to a different time with a new age feel.

Oscar Fashion 2009

So I give Beyonce props for being the curvy girl in Hollywood and making it look sexy. She makes some wild choices, but this one for me was a no go. The dress simply reminds me of a really expensive tapestry that would be put in one's home. Again she has a great shape, and she knows how to work it, but I am just simply not a fan.
As a side note- the "musical" number was quite entertaining, but did she lip sync?

Oscar Fashion 2009

Natalie Portman to me can just do no wrong. She looked absolutely amazing in this pink Rodarte dress. Simple, yet feminine and elegant. The pleating, front rouching, weaving fabric and embellishments added a touch of glam. The color is just perfect for her skin tone. I'm also glad she didn't go overboard with a chunky necklace. The bodice of the dress was intricate enough.
Well done, Natalie!

Oscar Fashion 2009

I feel like I haven't really been pumped about Jessica Biel these days. This was NOT a good look for her. This front flap was just kind of awkwardly placed, the color washed her out, and what was she trying to do with her hair? It looked unwashed and thrown up at the last minute. Don't even get me started on the black clutch and matching black shoes.

Oscar Fashion 2009

I just love the Oscars! It gives the stars one more excuse to get glammed up, walk the red carpet, and another reason to give Hollywood a pat on the back.
The Fashion was interesting to me this year. No one took huge risks, and the overall style was very simple, with geometrical accents, and jewelry that really stood out.
Marissa's look is one of my favorites. It made me forget about her Golden Globe pirate mishap. The color, pleating, and train just worked perfectly. Not bad for a stripper, eh? ;)

Milly Fashion Show @ Bryant Park

The Milly ready-to-wear collection defines the new young luxury niche with its smart, feminine and sexy style. The Fall 2009 collections are exquisite!!!! Plenty of functional pieces with sleek, timeless silhouettes and luxuriousous fabrics that easily transform day to night and season after season. Ecru silk organza dress with black grossgrain waist and black silk tulle dress embroidrered with matte sliver sequins nearly make me faint. Along with the chic fashion editors and buyers, there were also a handful of "celebrities" such as Mary J. Blige, Julia Stiles and Elizabeth Hassleback showing their support to the designer; Michelle Smith. After the show ended, I left with a happy smile and can't wait until these collections to hit the stores knowing these are the pieces you will love forever.. Until then I'll be dreaming more ruffles...

Fall 2009 Trend Report

With New York's Fashion Week coming to a close, it's clear where the trends are heading. Prints prints and more prints, lots of black, and splashes of neon seem to be the major trends for Fall 2009 RTW. Every designer had creative prints in all types: tribal, geometric, and mismatching.
Even though I'm so ready for Summer weather, I can't wait to be creative with all there is to offer for Fall!

Barbie Runway Show

It may be the fashion obsessed little girl in me, but I am just extremely pumped by the come back of Barbie. Throughout the years Barbie has been a fashion icon for little girls all over the world. Changing with every year and every season, she empowers girls to express themselves through fashion. The first ever Barbie runway show included some of my favorite designers such as Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, Rachel Roy and more. This is a sure sign of fashion to come, and I couldn't be more excited.
Bring on the Barbie!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The US Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately 1 billion Valentine's are sent each year around the world. Valentine's day to most has become just a retailers hoax to boost slow sales, but I think it's nice that there is such a day to acknowledge the loved ones in your life. It also gives us girls a reason to doll ourselves up whether single or taken.
Some argue (cough cough :men:) that it is just forces them to shower their loved ones with affection rather than just doing it on a whim. I feel that if you care enough...you won't mind.

What do you think? Are you glad Valentine's Day exists?

Grammy Fashion

I have never really paid much attention to Katy Perry to be honest. Of course I've heard her famous "I kissed a girl" multiple times per day for the last several months, but when it comes to her and fashion, I never really knew she had it in her. She proved me wrong last night with this stunning Basil Soda dress! She looked totally glam- it was a perfect combination of feminine and sassy which seems to fit her personality well. Go Katy!

Grammy Fashion

Ahhhh the Grammy's- a night of fashion, music and celebs. I'm going to give my take on the good the bad and the "wtf was that?"

Doesn't Paris Hilton realize she doesn't shock us anymore? I'm sorry but everything about this ensemble was just wrong; and matching her clutch with her shoes? Such a rookie fashion move!

Sorry Paris, but that's NOT hot.

Super Bowl Fashion

It was Jennifer Hudson's first performance since the fatal shooting of her mother and brother. I must say she did an AMAZING job and looked absolutely fabulous! I just loved the simplicity of her military drummerboy-esque looking jacket and skinny jeans along with gold accents. Nice touch!
