Joes Jeans- The perfect fit

With the thousands of Designer jeans out there in the world- it's really hard to pick a favorite. Then again- I have a favorite - Joes Jeans. The fit is amazing, they are extremely soft, long lasting and the price is a bit lower than most. I myself gravitate towards the Provocateur fit. Now I'm 5'4 - clearly no fit model BUT, no need to hem! Makes me feel just a little bit taller.
We at Queen Bee actually just got in a new shipment, and I could not be more satisfied. Check em out! I guarantee you'll find your favorite fit out of the many styles and stick to it.

NuBras just got EVEN better

Anyone who owns a NuBra can vouch that it changes lives (in the wardrobe department of course). I couldn't agree more- What's better than a Bra you can wear with anything-backless, strapless etc- that actually gives you a rack when you have little to work with? Simply stick on one cup, stick on the other, push together and clasp- BAM! ...cleavage. So, I don't know why they never thought of this before but NuBra has JUST come out with a Push Up Seamless. I for one am super pumped. Tell your friends- they will thank you.

Old skool do- new skool trend

The process of braiding has been around for ages, and seems to be making quite a comeback. We've seen celebs sporting their lush locks wrapped up in different styles. Whatever style you prefer- fishtail, crown, or just a simple french- this summer you're sure to inspire others with this simple yet elegant trend.

Harem Pants- Love them or Hate them?

It seems that most people hate the new McHammer-esuqe Harem pant trend. Me- I'm a little on the fence about them. This particular example really just makes me think of a grown-up diaper. But I have seen ones that can work, and many of the major designers have also jumped on board- DVF, YSL, Ralph Lauren among others. While living in Florence years ago I saw this trend on many of the Europeans which then slowly crossed the Atlantic over to the US around 2008, and still growing slowly- Spring and Summer 09 were big season's for the interesting trend. I don't think they've hit their max just yet- so can plan on watching the trend blossom and change. My advice- get the higher crotch that has more volume and slowly narrows to the bottom. The length should hit mid calf- and make sure to pair with some killer heels. Be bold!

Lady Gaga, What are you doing?

You have to give Lady gaga props for her unique and risky fashion choices, but this is just utterly ridiculous. There's a point when bold fashion moves just go too far. Maybe she has a pimple? Maybe she had a bad botox batch? Whatever the case may be, leave the scary dominatrix mask at home. Ok, Lady Gaga we get it, you're kinky.... after this charade, I'm left with a sour taste, from her "saving face"

This economy is bad for retailers but good for consumers. This summer, stores are going on sale much sooner then usual. Make sure to check your local stores and score designer Summer threads for much less! There's still months left of Summer (as most of us are hoping in the New England area-what is UP with this weather?)- so you can buy it now at a bargain and wear it now!

At Queen Bee save on Summer cocktail dresses, shorts, and tops from Milly, Shoshanna, DVF, and more!

Resort 2010: To buy or Not to buy....

It's no secret that resort travel has dwindled. Due to the current economic trends many canceled their yearly trips for 2009- therefor had no need for resort wear. You can still see the remains in many stores who are STILL stuck with inventory from January. Tis the season for buyers to begin looking at resort 2010 lookbooks and linesheets, but the question is- to buy or not to buy. Ticket prices, and hotel rates have significantly decreased attempting to lure those high end travelers once again.
2010 resort season does not look like it will be the same as 3 or 4 seasons prior, but the good news is that it can't be as bad as it was in 2009. SO- the possible solution to the buyers dilema is buy small, and buy safe.

We have seen the tulip style dress in multiple colors this season from Shoshanna- and it is working for just about everyone! It has been extremely popular- especially in the fuschia color. If you can't get your hands on one this season- not to worry. The style is carrying over into winter and Holiday as well. Go Shoshanna!

Cannes Fashion

I particularly like the Cannes Fashion from this year. It was very simple, yet glam. The festival just seems much more fun and laid back than most celebrity events.
I particularly liked this look on model Devon Aoki. The color is amazing on her and she paired it well with a sparkling necklace and a simple bun.
On a side note- can someone PLEASE tell me what Paris was doing at the festival?? OHHHH wait I know, her "Paris, not France" made for MTV movie- sorry my fault :p

New Favorite Trend~ Bright Nails

We've been seeing celebs sporting some crazy polish- and I have to say I just LOVE the trend. It's something so small, but it really goes a long way! When I sport the bright nails, I always get comments. I plan to be stocked up on some OPI this Summer to add a touch of color to every ensemble.

Eco-Friendly Fashion

These days, it seems the world's geniuses are coming up with new ideas and technology to help save Mama Earth: electric cars, scooters, solar/wind energy and even fashion! Green or Eco-Friendly fashion has come a LONG way since the hemp trends that most fashionista's would not be caught dead in.
What does Eco-friendly fashion mean anyways? It can mean a whole boatload of things, but the big ones seem to be animal friendly, natural fabric that's free from chemicals and dies, and pesticide free raw materials. I think in the future we will see more and more well known designers doing their part and start incorporating some more greens in their fashion salad.

Shopping Moods

What effects your shopping habits? For me, I just have this constant urge to buy something new. Once I get this feeling I let it stew for a little to see if it's real- and I know it's time when I hate EVERYTHING in my closet, and then fantasize about a certain item I saw in a boutique window that one day after coffee. The different seasons can also effect my habit. In Boston at the moment, it's still way too cold to buy all the fun, brightly colored merchandise in the windows.
But I'm curious to see if this is the norm or there are other factors out there. Let's here yours!

My New Obsession: Miracle Hair Product

So my new rockstar stylist introduced this amazing product to me, and I can't believe I went through life without it. It's a finishing product by Aquage - Beyond Shine. Just a little spray after you blowdry will turn your hair extra shiny and help manage those loose fly-a-ways and unruly textured locks. I feel like it's the answer to the question "how did Jennifer Aniston's hair look so perfect on Friends?" I also use it before I blow dry to protect my hair and style it the way I want. It's extremely light and doesn't weigh your hair down which is important for ladies with thin hair like myself. It's around $12 a can and it lasts forever!

Sea Glass Halter

This Milly A-line halter top has a flirty and fun appeal. The colors and print make it a signature Milly design. My favorite part of the halter is the sea glass necklace attached and how it adds just enough detail requiring no other jewelry. This top is a great buy because you can wear it with a pair of jeans or dress it up with some nice pants. It's perfect for a day or a night out in the city!

Do It Yourself: Destroying

Destroyed denim only disappeared for a short while- but it's back in full force. Many celebs have been spotted wearing their brand new, already destroyed denim. For those of you who refuse to pay top dollar for denim that already looks overworn- this tip is for you. All you need is some bleach, a dremel, a metal cheese grater and some scissors. Bleach works well to break down and discolor the fabric. Let it sit for an hour or two. You can also dribble it to make spots. Wash and dry before you begin to shred and tear. Put some shoes in the dryer as well to beat the fabric a little more. Go at the jeans with the dremel, grater and scissors to get the look you want. Paint can also be a fun touch- just make sure you don't wash it with anything else for the first few times. When you're done, you'll feel accomplished and smarter than those who paid over$200. Take that, Abercrombie!

Looking for that casual, comfy, yet fun T-shirt? Splendid is known for their bright colors, the softest fabric, and perfect fit! You can catch celebrities such as Jessica Alba, Eva Longoria , Jessica Simpson, and Carmen Elektra wearing the Splendid brand. This striped henley is my favorite from the spring shipment! Bring on Some Spring Accessories!

Walking around the wet and muddy streets of Boston today, my mind began to wander off and dream of a time when I no longer need to tuck my pants into my boots that have been destroyed from snow and salt. I have a few shoes on my Spring radar already and it looks like the styles are super funky, and I am a huge fan. These Alexandra Neel's really caught my eye. The feather detail adds a touch of sexiness, which allows us to wear flats at night. I'm also a big follower of Sam Edleman- the gladiator sandals they create every Spring season just keep getting better! They're great for everyday and always have edgy details.
Those of you who are Jack Roger fans Queen Bee has you covered. It's by far our most popular shoe, and a shipment is due next month:

The Economy's Effect on Fashion

It's now no secret that the world is in economic turmoil. Fashion has and will continue to take on a change reminiscent of the 30's and 40's. Designers are hesitant to create clothes too risky and bold, while consumers are only spending money on items they can wear season to season without them "going out" of style. Bring on the "classic" looks. The cycle of fashion has once again and will always revert back to a different time with a new age feel.

Oscar Fashion 2009

So I give Beyonce props for being the curvy girl in Hollywood and making it look sexy. She makes some wild choices, but this one for me was a no go. The dress simply reminds me of a really expensive tapestry that would be put in one's home. Again she has a great shape, and she knows how to work it, but I am just simply not a fan.
As a side note- the "musical" number was quite entertaining, but did she lip sync?

Oscar Fashion 2009

Natalie Portman to me can just do no wrong. She looked absolutely amazing in this pink Rodarte dress. Simple, yet feminine and elegant. The pleating, front rouching, weaving fabric and embellishments added a touch of glam. The color is just perfect for her skin tone. I'm also glad she didn't go overboard with a chunky necklace. The bodice of the dress was intricate enough.
Well done, Natalie!

Oscar Fashion 2009

I feel like I haven't really been pumped about Jessica Biel these days. This was NOT a good look for her. This front flap was just kind of awkwardly placed, the color washed her out, and what was she trying to do with her hair? It looked unwashed and thrown up at the last minute. Don't even get me started on the black clutch and matching black shoes.

Oscar Fashion 2009

I just love the Oscars! It gives the stars one more excuse to get glammed up, walk the red carpet, and another reason to give Hollywood a pat on the back.
The Fashion was interesting to me this year. No one took huge risks, and the overall style was very simple, with geometrical accents, and jewelry that really stood out.
Marissa's look is one of my favorites. It made me forget about her Golden Globe pirate mishap. The color, pleating, and train just worked perfectly. Not bad for a stripper, eh? ;)

Milly Fashion Show @ Bryant Park

The Milly ready-to-wear collection defines the new young luxury niche with its smart, feminine and sexy style. The Fall 2009 collections are exquisite!!!! Plenty of functional pieces with sleek, timeless silhouettes and luxuriousous fabrics that easily transform day to night and season after season. Ecru silk organza dress with black grossgrain waist and black silk tulle dress embroidrered with matte sliver sequins nearly make me faint. Along with the chic fashion editors and buyers, there were also a handful of "celebrities" such as Mary J. Blige, Julia Stiles and Elizabeth Hassleback showing their support to the designer; Michelle Smith. After the show ended, I left with a happy smile and can't wait until these collections to hit the stores knowing these are the pieces you will love forever.. Until then I'll be dreaming more ruffles...

Fall 2009 Trend Report

With New York's Fashion Week coming to a close, it's clear where the trends are heading. Prints prints and more prints, lots of black, and splashes of neon seem to be the major trends for Fall 2009 RTW. Every designer had creative prints in all types: tribal, geometric, and mismatching.
Even though I'm so ready for Summer weather, I can't wait to be creative with all there is to offer for Fall!

Barbie Runway Show

It may be the fashion obsessed little girl in me, but I am just extremely pumped by the come back of Barbie. Throughout the years Barbie has been a fashion icon for little girls all over the world. Changing with every year and every season, she empowers girls to express themselves through fashion. The first ever Barbie runway show included some of my favorite designers such as Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, Rachel Roy and more. This is a sure sign of fashion to come, and I couldn't be more excited.
Bring on the Barbie!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The US Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately 1 billion Valentine's are sent each year around the world. Valentine's day to most has become just a retailers hoax to boost slow sales, but I think it's nice that there is such a day to acknowledge the loved ones in your life. It also gives us girls a reason to doll ourselves up whether single or taken.
Some argue (cough cough :men:) that it is just forces them to shower their loved ones with affection rather than just doing it on a whim. I feel that if you care enough...you won't mind.

What do you think? Are you glad Valentine's Day exists?

Grammy Fashion

I have never really paid much attention to Katy Perry to be honest. Of course I've heard her famous "I kissed a girl" multiple times per day for the last several months, but when it comes to her and fashion, I never really knew she had it in her. She proved me wrong last night with this stunning Basil Soda dress! She looked totally glam- it was a perfect combination of feminine and sassy which seems to fit her personality well. Go Katy!

Grammy Fashion

Ahhhh the Grammy's- a night of fashion, music and celebs. I'm going to give my take on the good the bad and the "wtf was that?"

Doesn't Paris Hilton realize she doesn't shock us anymore? I'm sorry but everything about this ensemble was just wrong; and matching her clutch with her shoes? Such a rookie fashion move!

Sorry Paris, but that's NOT hot.

Super Bowl Fashion

It was Jennifer Hudson's first performance since the fatal shooting of her mother and brother. I must say she did an AMAZING job and looked absolutely fabulous! I just loved the simplicity of her military drummerboy-esque looking jacket and skinny jeans along with gold accents. Nice touch!

Fashion on a Budget

Seems like more and more people are asking how to stay fashionable on a budget. Lets face it these days everyone is also trying to save as much money as possible. However, there are many ways to stay stylish on a budget!
* Don't Impulse buy! This can leave you feeling guilty and asking yourself why you spent that amount on the item. Instead wait it out. You'll get a bigger bang for your buck. Many stores put merchandise on sale in order to prepare for the next season.
* Sign up for email lists! Many stores offer promotional and weekly emails updating you on sales
* When shopping always buy your basics. Everyone needs a good pair of black pumps, black pants, a good stylish pair of jeans, and a fun and warm winter coat. In the spring/summer buy your basic white, black, or denim shorts/skirts. That way any color tops can go with them and you can make more outfits! Accessories can also spice up an outfit. When on a budget check out H&M for fun and cheap accessories!
*Allow yourself to splurge on a few fun items you know you will wear with your basics. It's alright to treat yourself every once in a while ( if you can) just remember to treat yourself to items you know you will wear!
* Love an item but just can't afford it? RESEARCH! Go online and check out other stores/boutiques that may carry the designer and search for the best deal. Compare prices.. if that doesn't work be patient and hope/pray it goes on clearance!

Health & Fitness

After the new year, about 90% of the population heads to the gym to shape up. We've scoured the web to find the best tips to get you into shape.

1). Cut your fat intake- Meats, dairy, sugars, oils etc are all food sources that are fattening. Yes, your body needs them, but just not so much. Think of ways to cut these down and up your fruits and veggies.

2) EAT CARBS- Carbs are in fact GOOD for you. They fuel the muscles to enable better movement. Muscles work better during a workout and in fact help burn more calories.

3) Exercise 30-45 minutes 4 times per week. What this really means is get your heart rate up (varies with age and weight) and keep it steady for around 30-45 minutes.

Struck by the 80's for Spring 2009

For those ready for the warm weather here are some trends for Spring 2009!

Be prepared to have a flash back to the 80's-Yes, that's correct! There will be many inspirations coming from my personal favorite era. Expect to see neon colors, pastels, pretty in pink, and tropical shades! Grey will be the new neutral...

Prints will be huge;Think feminine floral's and bohemian vibes. Don't forget ruffles are still a hot item along with bows! The jumpsuit will also be returning. Anyone up for showing some skin because sheer materials will creep back upon us also.

Denim- ripped jeans and boyfriend style.

One fad that will return are tops with shoulder pads? Lets all HOPE that's just a joke!

All Eyes on First Lady

All eyes were on Michelle Obama as she finally unveiled her gown designed by young designer, Jason Wu. He wanted the dress to stand for newness, hope, and be dreamlike. This ivory silk chiffon and Swarvoski crystal dress is just that- DREAMY! As president Obama joked with the crowd saying, "How good-looking is my wife?" I have to agree she looked stunning in this beautiful gown!

Our New First Lady

The inauguration of 2009 for many is a sign of hope and reunification.
Our new first lady couldn't have been more proper in a yellow sparkly ensemble from Isabel Toledo. The color yellow inspires optimism and carries the promise of a positive future.

Welcome to the White House, First Family!

Inauguration Fashion

Politics and fashion have always seemed to go hand-in-hand. I think we can all agree that no one did it better than Jacqueline Kennedy. She looked fabulous seen here at the 1961 Inauguration.
It is rumored that Michelle Obama will be in a DVF piece made especially for this huge event, and we at Queen Bee could not be more excited.

Gossip Girl in DVF

Diane Von Furstenberg is known for her vibrant prints and wrap dresses but we can’t forget that there is so much more to the collection than just dresses. On Gossip Girl last week, Blair was seen in a beautiful DVF suit. This proves that DVF is not only timeless, but ageless. A teenage Manhattan fashionista can look great in a DVF fitted blazer as well as a sophisticated business woman. It’s all about wearing staple designer pieces with individual style to make it your own.

Underwater Resort

Winter in Boston is never easy; today we're lucky to be in the teens, wind chills below zero. My face hurts and I'm wearing long johns under my pants...hot. It makes my mind wander off and dream of sandy beaches and fruity alcoholic beverages. Or possibly 40 feet under the sea...sure! In 2010 the world's first underwater resort will be open to the public on a far off island. My first thought is, when can I sign up...annnndddd can I live there?

Gone with the Will

Did anyone happen to catch gossip girl last night?
Ohh poor Chuck, falling into his old habits, blowing off Blair and losing the company.
And not to mention Serena and Dan share a brother? A little too weird if you ask me.

The fashion did not disappoint as usual. We especially like the Milly top on Blair- She has Queen Bee taste:

Golden Globes Fashion 2009

Am I alone when I say "I'm not a fan"? I'll be the first to admit that Jennifer Lopez is hot. I just feel like I've seen this type of dress on her before; I am no longer shocked.
She has amazing curves and a world famous booty, but this dress just does not flatter her. To me it's just a shiny, draping flop.

Sorry JLo...maybe next time.

Golden Globes Fashion 2009

This is possibly my favorite look for the 2009 Golden Globes. Eva Longoria Parker stole the show in this amazing red Reem Acra fishtail gown.
Her effortless look was finished off with the perfect amount of jewelry and a simple hairstyle.

Well done, Eva!
